A Wish Made of Glass

By 16:18:00 ,

I was a beta reader for this book and also participated in the cover reveal and now I am reviewing it just before it is released. Those are not the reasons I like this story though. I like it because it is a story of wonder, beauty, heartbreak, healing, a story to remind us that we are not made for this world.

"Deep in a forest glade, the fey folk dance with Isidore, a young human child. Their kinship is the very fabric of her childhood. When her mother dies and her world darkens with sorrow, Isidore finds her belief in the fey folk wavering.

The love of her new step-sister, Blessing, proves an unexpected gift in her time of need. Yet even as their friendship blooms, Isidore begins to see that Blessing is everything she herself has always wanted to be, but is not. Jealousy grips Isidore as she watches this beautiful new sister steal away all she holds dear.

Driven to desperation, Isidore turns to the fey folk once more. She has only one wish to claim from them, one chance to make things right. But she must tread carefully. For wishes, like hearts, are easily broken. And obtaining the one thing she desires could mean destroying the one thing she truly needs."

This story is a beautifully written, descriptive fairy tale. VERY loosely based around the story of Cinderella. Fey folk dance, wishes are made, hearts are walked upon, broken, and made new. This is also an allegory, a beautiful one. This story is magical, without there being any real 'magic' as such, in it. There are the fey folk though, I liked them so much, I'm going to try find them next time I am out in some woods, though maybe Australian forests don't work.

This is now the third time I have read the story. But this time I read lots of bits I had not seen before (Because they weren't there before). The additions made the allegory clearer and the story more beautiful, and believable. Needless to say, I really enjoyed this book. It is a lovely short read, being a novella, but it seems the perfect length.There is not a dull page in it, though the pace is not fast, it is very engaging. Emotion is beautifully expressed, and there is a lot of it in the book, I felt deeply along with the characters. I also enjoyed the sister bits in the story too. I mean who does not like stories where there is sister love, though it does not always stay perfect. (Not at all, but I shan't spoil the story)

The story is easy to follow, there are only really six or eight characters (that we ever hear anything about, but mostly is is just Isidore). The main character Isidore grows and changes, and yet she always herself. She is an interesting character, her emotions are so wild, and vivid, and deep. I felt greatly for her, and with her.

There is a beautiful romance too, though not at all the usual for any Cinderella story (as I said it is very loosely based). So characters do hold hands, dance, hug and kiss once or twice. But that is also all part of the allegory. And therefore I enjoyed it all. I would highly recommend this book! It is being released soon, hopefully later this month!

You can find more about the writer,
Ashlee Willis on her;

And you can go and buy her other book, which I reviewed a while back. And also highly recommend. Otherwise I would not be telling you to buy it would I? You should not judge a book by its cover, but seriously, the cover of the second edition is beautiful!

Do you want to read Ashlee's books?
Have you read The Word Changers, if so what did you think of it?
Oh and did you like the first picture in this post?
