Stacking the Shelves: My Book Fair Haul

By 10:06:00 , ,

I recently saw a 'stacking the shelves' post on a blog I follow and thought I would join in. As far as I understand a link up happens each week at Tynga's Reviews. I don't follow her blog or anything so I don't know what exactly the content is or if I agree with reviews and such, (just wanted to make that clear). And all a 'stacking the shelves' post is, is a post about all the new books you/I have acquired! The ones in my post are some of those I got at the annual book fair, which I did a blog post on the other day.

First, James Herriot books. These, especially the top two in the photo above are so funny! I have read a number of his books before and I have a thing with wanting to own books I like.... and even some they are only ok.... (there ones are much better than ok) I am not sure which James Herriot books I have read, but I know they are good enough to read again. As well as being so funny, many are lovely sweet stories too, of Yorkshire country happenings.

Then I got these, some of the 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' books, I have never yet read more than a few pages/chapters of them. Although years ago a friend of mine told me what happened in the first two books instead of us going to sleep.... (sleepovers, are so wrongly named) but I forget it all.... so I shall find out whenever I get around to reading these.

Two random books I found that looked interesting. I have found authors I like this way. But as of yet I have no idea what they will be like, they just caught my eye.

These books have been recommended to me by Goodreads... based on what I have read, I thought since they were only 50c each I'd pick them up and see if they were any good, no great loss if they are not! I don't know if I shall end up recommending them, the last one looks a bit odd, but it also has a concept I really like and have thought about trying to write a book with that in it.

Some more random finds. I had heard of Hinds' Feet on High Places... somewhere. So I picked it up. And I like poems and horses and Australian, probably self published authors. I have imaginings of my own book of poems one day appearing in print.....

I also have an obsession with the books in trilogies being in the same edition..... or looking like they are..... so I got another copy of Divergent, which matches the second two books I already had.

And I'm still a lover of pony books... and the first book in this photo was also just so pretty.... I have a great collection of the Pullein-Thompson sister's books. I did not yet have these two so I got them.... and I had read The Quicksand Pony by Alison Lester before and liked it. It is again an Australian book, always a point in a book's favour.

And the moment of greatest excitement, I got a copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! I was so excited because I owned the rest of the series and I had read up to that book. Naturally I really wanted to continue, I was so glad to find this copy, it even matched all the rest of mine that I already had. I read it over the next few days.... and then began the last one and now I have finished the series. So you can begin to look forward to a review of the entire series in the near future.

As you can see from the photo I also found a copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which I have now begun reading and I am having a really suspicious feeling I have read it before and can't for the life of me work out when.

Lastly, my beautiful books...... really they make great photo subjects. I shall also be doing another post with.... a lot... more photos of my beautiful books in them.

I know you should not judge a book by its cover but.... well they are so nice, and I am using them as... photo props... or as a random, massive, 'pretty book' stack to sit in a corner in my room..... with my other stack I already have... from the book fair last year....
