Temptations: can be conquered
Well I had to write something on temptation so I thought I might as well post it...
Temptation is the desire, itch, or urge, to do something, especially something wrong or unwise. Being tempted is not a sin but succumbing to it is. Is temptation conquerable? Succumbing is so easy but, facing temptation is not easy, otherwise it would not be called temptation. But as 1 Corinthians 10:13 says;
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
We are able with God’s help to endure temptation. God will never tempt us beyond what we can conquer. Temptation is something we should flee, not even staying to fight. When temptation comes as it surely will the best way to resist it is to not even think about it and not think about not thinking about it. Philippians 4:8 says;
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Luke 22:40 “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
Prayer is also a way the Bible says we can resist temptation. Through prayer we receive Gods help in resisting temptation. Jesus was tempted when he was on earth, but he resisted. Jesus replied to Satan’s tempting with bible verses. This is an example of why memorising scripture is so important and helpful.
Temptation at times may seem irresistible but it is not. With God’s help we can do anything, especially resist the temptations of the enemy. We resist through prayer. Temptation is conquerable.
