Reflection on the Seasons

By 10:56:00 , , , , ,

Sometimes I think: Why can’t we just have nice weather all the time. Sunny and warm with sometimes a shower,  not freezing cold winds and boiling hot sun and rain that pours down for days.

Then I realize God has blessed us with each different season. In winter we have the warm wood fires inside the house and outside there are camp-fires and bonfires, toasted marshmallows, sparklers. In some places there is the beauty of snow and the sparkle of frost. Different plants grow in each season. Near the end of winter bulbs push their stalks out of the dirt, and unfold their sweet smelling flowers, but it must have got cold first for that to happen.

In summer there is the delight of water, wading in the river, playing by the seaside, in the pool, or just under the hose while watering the plants, or filling up pet’s water containers. The colours in the spring, all the beautiful flowers, the gold of wattle. Then in autumn the flaming red and yellow of the deciduous trees the brown and gold. Each breeze, each sun-ray, sunrise, sunset, is there because God wanted it to be. God knew exactly what he was doing when he made each season. New and different blessings in each that cannot be experienced in a different season.

Genesis 8:22
While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.

Psalm 147: 7-11
Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
    make melody to our God on the lyre!

He covers the heavens with clouds;
    he prepares rain for the earth;
    he makes grass grow on the hills.
He gives to the beasts their food,
    and to the young ravens that cry.
His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
    nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
    in those who hope in his steadfast love.

  1. So true.
    "The heavens declare the glory of God,
    and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
    Day to day pours out speech,
    and night to night reveals knowledge.
    There is no speech, nor are there words,
    whose voice is not heard.
    Their voice goes out through all the earth,
    and their words to the end of the world." Psalm 19:1-4 (ESV)
